Semi-Finalists for U15 Cricket confirmed

The final 4 teams have cemented their place in the semifinals of the Singer U15 Cricket Tournament for 2018, having earned their place after some hard fought and exciting matches in the Quarter finals.

The tournament kicked off in May featuring 74 teams in the first round on a league basis divided into 10 groups. It later came down to 32 teams divided into 8 groups. The matches were played at different venues all over the Island and were completed with 16 teams battling it out in the Pre-Quarter finals.

The quarter-finals ended in draws with most teams winning on bonus points and first innings points. St. Sebastian’s secured the 1st semifinal berth after dominating St. Peter’s College at home.

The quarterfinal between Royal College, Colombo and Thurstan College, Colombo was worked off at Horana, at the same time the other quarterfinal encounter between Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa was played in Bandaragama. Royal College qualified through bonus points after batting for the whole day while Prince of Wales won the first innings to qualify.

Mahanama who were crowned champions last year, managed to qualify for the second round this year securing the final spot in the top four, defeating St. Anne’s College Kurunegala yesterday. The second division schools strung up quite a few surprises as many of the ‘A division’ schools were knocked out from the group stages.

The fixture will be as follows.

SF – 1 – Prince of Wales College Moratuwa vs Royal College Colombo (venue – St.Joseph’s College)

SF – 2 – Mahanama College Colombo vs St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa (venue – Prison Grounds Dalupotha)
