Kylie McMullan will become the first female assistant referee to officiate in a Scottish Premiership match on Saturday.

McMullan will run the line during St Mirren’s home game against Hearts this weekend.

The 25-year-old Scot, who is also a policewoman, has also officiated in five Scottish second tier fixtures this season, as well as the Women’s Champions League when she officiated a quarter-final clash between Wolfsburg and Barcelona.

In 2013, she was also an assistant referee at two matches at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I was promoted in January, so I’ve been working hard since then to prepare for this level,” McMullan told the Scottish Football Association’s official website.

“When I found out about the appointment yesterday I was absolutely delighted.

“For the match I’ll prepare as I would for any other game, but I’ll be a bit more nervous. Once the first whistle is blown on Saturday though I’m sure it’ll feel like any other game.”

The first female assistant referee to be appointed to the English Premier League was Wendy Toms in the 1995-96 season.
