Two hat-tricks from Hashan Madumadawa and Udesh Madusanka saw Science College pick up victory over Dharmaraja College 54 points to 7 at Air-Force grounds earlier today.

One of the league favorites science college who had a nail biting victory over St Peter’s College last week, needed to improve their performances going into today’s game. While the Rajans enjoyed a thrilling a victory over their hill country rivals Kingswood College, was riding high on confidence coming into face the favored Science College.

Science kicked off proceedings, not taking too long to break the shackles as Udesh Madusanka drew first blood with a converted try. Speedster Tharindu Maduranga broke through from the half way and offloaded to Madusanka who went all the way to score under the post. The Conversion was an easy one for Thanuja Maduranga. ( SC 7 – DC 0 )

Madusanka went on to score his second try few minutes later. Science was working the ball inside the Dharmaraja 22m and Madusanka spotted a gap and went over the line fending off two defenders in the process. Thanuja added the extras with ease. ( SC 14 – DC 0 )

With ten minutes gone the Rajans were already under immense pressure, their body language seemed subdued as they were obviously baffled by the onslaught from Science College. Dharmaraja’s full back Gimhan Deshapriya had the chance to get points on board for his team but he couldn’t bisect uprights from the 40m.

Science stamp authority over the RajansScience College struggled in their line outs in the previous match but they used the set play to gain territory in this game. Their third try came from a maul. Having won a line-out  on the 40m they pushed all the way to the 5m at which point half-back Hashan Madumadawa snuck through to score the third try for the home side. Thanuja was once again successful with the conversion. ( SC 21 – DC 0 )

 The Rajans were down to 14 men after Maneesha Bandara was sent to the naughty chair by referee Rohan Fernando. Science with the one man advantage ran in their 4th try of the evening as Madumadawa used his footwork and strength to score his 2nd try of the game. Thanuja extended his tally to 8 points with another successful conversion. ( SC 28 – DC 0 )

At the brink of half time Madusanka scored completed his hat-trick capitalizing on another Tharidu Maduranga break-through from half way mark and threw a perfect offload to Madusanka who went all the way to score under the post.

The first half was absolutely dominated by Science College but in the second half both teams looked tired under the extreme conditions on the field. However Science kept on piling on the points. 2nd half replacement R Fernando went over the line in the 58th minute thanks another breakthrough by Tharidu Maduranga. Thanuja missed out on the conversion this time but he already had 10 points to his name. (SC 40 – DC 0 )

Science College then lost Nirosh Udayanga in the last quarter of the match when he was sent to the sin-bin.  The Rajans only try came when they used the one man advantage as Tharaka De Silva pushed himself deep into Science half and won his team a penalty which was taken quickly by Gimhan Deshapriya who snuck through to score their first and only try. Deshapriya Converted his own try. ( SC 40 – DC 7 )

 Hashan Madumadawa completed his hatrick few minutes later, once again Thairdu doing the hard work for his team and this time setting up Madumadawa who completed the job. Vibuda Sahan added the extras. ( SC 47 – DC 7 )

Science had the ideal ending with a brilliant try from their speedster Tharidu Maduranga which put them over the 50 point mark. It was a complete performance by the boys from Mount Lavinia. Dharmaraja will have to recover from this defeat and they will have to do it fast if they wish to compete going into the mid stages of the league.
