The seventh Zahira 7’s organized by Zahira College Group of 60’s is scheduled to commence on the 18th Sunday at the Zahira College grounds from 8.00 a.m. onwards.
‘The friendship challenge cup’ will be played completed by 12 schools. Only two top tier rugby playing schools will be participating and few more schools yet to be confirmed the defending champions Vidyartha College will be the only team from Kandy in action. However, it will be a perfect time for the defending triple champions Isipathana College to see, their preseason outcome.
Mr. Ifthikar Ahamed the President of Group of 60’s addressing the media gathering today at the Ghaffoor Hall “We believe this tournament will be a good starter for the upcoming rugby season” also the principal Mr. Trizviiy Marikar stated that “Zahira is one of the pioneers in Sri Lankan rugby and we believe students will show their talent and the best team wins”.
Tournament Director Mr. Ibrahim Hamid said that “We have invited top schools, we still have some places and awaiting their confirmation. This will however, be a good start for the schools participating in order to focus on the Inter Schools 7’s which will be orgainsed by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) later this month”.
