Schools Limited Overs Cricket – Thora beat Royal AGAIN

S. Thomas’ College cricket team defeated Royal College by 54 runs and recorded their 2nd win within 3 days as their under 19 all island schools limited overs tournament fixture ended on Monday at Mount Lavinia. 

 

Thomians batting first made 219 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. Left-handed Tharindu Rathnayake struck a 39-ball 46 with 3 fours and 3 sixes. One drop batsman Nipuna Gamage made a clinical 44 as well. Off-spinner Hasitha Samarasinghe took 2 wickets while left-arm orthodox spinner Lasith Embuldeniya captured 2 scalps. 

Chasing 220 runs to win, Royal innings was ended in the 46th over with the score board reading the total at 165. Young Ronuka Jayawardene made 42 runs which went in vain while Umesh Sooriyabandara’s 37 runs came in 74 balls. Skipper Helakamal managed to scalp 3 wickets while Nimesh Fernando and Tharindu Rathnayake took 2 wickets apiece. Last year’s runners-up, the school by the sea secured their place in the pre-quarter finals with this win.

RC – 165 all out in 45.1 overs: Ronuka Jayawardena 42, Umesh Sooriyabandara 37, Tiran Danapala 28, Helakamal Nanayakkara 3/30, Tharindu Rathnayake 2/28, Nimesh Fernando 2/31.

 

Dharamaraja College vs Nalanda College

Nalanda managed to pull off a 4-wicket win against the Rajans at Campbell Place in a low-scoring match on Monday. 

The visitors were bowled out for a mere 100 with leg-spinner Kavindu Bandara taking 3 crucial wickets while seamers, Malik Peiris and Malinga Amarasinghe sharing 5 wickets amongst them. Nalanda lost 6 wickets to chase down 101 with Ravin Dasanayake top-scoring with 35 runs. 

Dharmaraja – 100 all out in 35.5 overs: Lahiru Samarakoon 31, Kavinda Rathnayake 14, Kavindu Bandara 3/8, Malith Peiris 3/29, Malinga Amarasinghe 2/21.

Nalanda – 101/6 in 26.2 overs: Ravin Dasanayake 35, Kasun Sandaruwan 22, Ruchira Pupulewatta 2/24, Wenuka Galahitiyawa 2/27.
