Round up on Schools cricket this weekend

Ananda College cruised to a rousing innings and 14 runs outright victory over Maliyadeva College Kurunegala in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

Ananda’s success of course was always there from the moment they bowled out their opponents for just 124 runs in the first innings well inside two sessions of play.

The Anandians continued with their total dominance over their opponents on the second day as well and went on to hit up an impressive 261 for 5 wickets and then bundled out the visitors for a paltry 123 runs in the second innings.

The Ananda College spinners once again played havoc with the Maliyadeva batting with Sandaken Pathirana, Isuru Gunasekera, Kasun Perera and Tharana Ravindu all proving their class through some outstanding bowling.

The feature in the Ananda College bowling was that they never allowed the opposition to settle down and to build up any partnerships but instead they really nailed the batsmen while capturing wickets at regular intervals.

The Anandians could be pleased with their batting effort as well because they were able to rattle up a formidable first innings total of 261 for 5 wickets in almost even time.

The Ananda College batsmen really went after the Maliyadeva College bowling from the very beginning with Pasindu Ishira racing to a run a ball century inclusive of three sixes and ten boundaries.

The stylish middle order batsman played the sheet anchor role while grabbing most of the strike while Dasun Weerasinghe added the finishing touches by stroking an unbeaten half century that took the home side pass the two hundred run mark.
