School Cricket Summary – Trinity, Richmond and Zahira record outright victories

Defending Champions and runner-up of the under 19 division 1 cricket tournament, Richmond College and Trinity College respectively registered outright wins while Zahira College got full points as well with an outright win on 7th January. 

 

Trinity College vs Nalanda College

The Boys from Kandy completed their 5th outright win of the season when they beat Nalanda College by 9 wickets at Campbell Place on Wednesday. 

Trinity resuming from their overnight score of 111/4 tied the first innings score of 183 posted by Nalanda. Dilan Jayalath was the top run-maker for the visitors with 69 runs. Leg-spinner Kavindu Bandara captured 5 wickets for the hosts. Nalanda was bowled out for 118 in their second innings as left-arm spinner Duvindu Thillakarathne and fast-bowler Lahiru Kumara took 3 wickets apiece. Trinity easily chased down the target of 119 thanks to an unbeaten 60 by opener Nushan Weerasinghe.

Trinity (2nd inn) – 120/1 in 13 overs: Nushan Weerasinghe 60*, Kaveen Himiduma 45.

 

Richmond College vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya

Defending Champions Richmond College cruised to their second outright win of the season beating Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya by 8 wickets at Police Park on Wednesday. 

Sri Lanka youth captain and off-spinner Charith Asalanka produced a superb bowling effort taking 7 wickets in the second innings to bowl out Dharmapala for 69 which enabled the visitors to only needing 41 runs to win for the outright win.

Dharmapala – 123 all out in 55.1 overs: Ashen Abeykoon 54*, Tharindu Maduwantha 22, Banuka Maduppriya 4/28, Dananjaya Lakshan 3/04. 

Richmond – 152 all out in 37.1 overs: Charith Asalanka 42, Kamindu Mendis 36, Pasindu Keshan 8/32.

Dharmapala (2nd inn) – 69 all out in 28.3 overs: Charith Asalanka 7/32, Banuka Maduppriya 2/7.

Richmond (2nd inn) – 41/2 in 12.3 overs: Sachindu Vinod 2/14. 

 

Zahira College vs Carey College

Zahira College, Colombo 10 beat Carey College by 9 wickets to record their 2nd outright win of the season at Maradana on Wednesday. 

Ramzan Rafaideen’s nine-wicket match-bag and Tuwan Safran’s 73 with the bat propelled Zahira College as Carey College failed to cross 150 plus during both their innings while Zahira made 243 during the first innings.

Carey – 148 all out in 66 overs: Sachin Madusanka 38, Mohamed Ishak 26, Ramzan Rafaideen 4/33, Tuan Safran 2/28, Shehan Weerasinghe 2/16, Ishan Samsudeen 2/30.

Zahira – 243 all out in 81.4 overs: Tuwan Safran 73, Ranusha Deemantha 4/102, Dinusha Lakshan 2/40.

Carey (2nd inn) – 121 all out in 36.4 overs: Ishan Rasaideen 4/45, Ramzan Rafaideen 5/46.

Zahira (2nd inn) – 29/1 in 7.5 overs: Shehan Weerasinghe 12*.

 

Akeel Inham steers DS Senanayake to a 1st innings win

DS batters made full advantage out of the good batting conditions after opting to bat first and they scored a formidable 1st innings score of 375 for the loss of 5 wickets before they decided to let the home side bat. Right-handed Akeel Inham was the star with the bat for DS Senanayake College scoring a sensational century, his first for the season. He was finally dismissed for 111 runs. The rest of the batters rallied around him and chipped in with useful knocks. Shifran Muthalif scored 75 runs. Kaveen Bandara and Thimila Vidyasekara scored some valuable runs of 59 and 55 respectively. 

The home side was put on to bat in the latter part of the first day. They only managed to crumble their way to 197 runs of 56 overs. Dilanka Gunasekara and Sinethra Soyza were the only successful batsmen for the home side. They scored 48* and 43 respectively. Sachin Bandara grabbed 4 wickets for 45 and Harith Maduwantha took 2 wickets for 24 runs. 

The hosts were forced to follow on and they were yet again struggling against the strong bowling attack of DS Senanayake College. Kasun Harshana’s superb rearguard effort helped the home side to kill time in the crease and end the match in a much better manner Kasun went on to score a valuable 56 runs helping the home side to stand strong in the second innings. Prince of Wales College was 152 for the loss of 5 wickets at stumps. Sachin Bandara and Harith Maduwantha were yet again amongst the wickets bagging two wickets each. DS Senanayake College grabbed first innings points and confidence after a good performance outside their own backyard.
