School Cricket Summary – St. Peter’s on top at Katunayake

Half centuries by Hashan Wanasekara and Dineth Thimodya helped St. Peter’s College take control of their under 19 division 1 match against Maris Stella College in Katunayake at stumps on Day 1. 

After being asked to bat first, the boys from Bambalapitiya accumulated 262 all out in 68.5 overs. Left-handed top order duo of Dineth and Hashan stroked 53 and 75 respectively. Wicket-keeper batsman Lakshina Rodrigo contributed with 39 runs. Off-spinner Sachindu Maduwantha and seamer Senal Perera claimed four wickets apiece. 

Maris Stella in reply struggled to cope up with the off-spin attack of Taneesha Weerakoon and Vinu Mohotti as they ripped through their batting order dismissing the boys from Negombo for 64 runs in just 26 overs. Avantha Silva was the only batsmen to resist the Peterite bowling as he scored a valiant 38. Taneesha picked up 5 scalps for 9 runs while Vinu captured 2 wickets for 1 run.

Prince of Wales’ College vs Moratu Maha Vidyalaya

Rasindu Kalpana’s stylish 75 helped Moratu Maha Vidyalaya post a formidable 224 against Prince of Wales College in their under 19 division 1 match at Moratua MV grounds on Saturday.

Maha Vidyalaya boys batting first in their Moratuwa Derby battled hard to score runs as Nishan Madusanka and Rasindu Kalpana made the highest contributions for the home team with 33 and 75 respectively. VD Weerakkody and RS Soysa captured 3 wickets each for the visitors. 

Prince of Wales in their first lease of the wicket was in dire straits at 29 for 4 when umpires called it a day.

Moratu Vidyalaya – 224 all out in 81.3 overs: Nishan Madushka 33, Rasindu Kalpana 75, VD Weerakkody 3/36, RS Soyza 3/51.

Prince of Wales College – 29/4 in 21 overs: Roshan Perera 2/03.
