The inter School cricket match between S. Thomas’ College and Zahira College which commenced yesterday concluded today and S. Thomas College managed to defeat Zahira College by 8 wickets.
S. Thomas’ College who won the toss put Zahira into bat and over-ran them for just 105 runs in 28.2 overs. It was an all round bowling performance by the Thomians with Ishan Kularatne doing most damage with 3 wickets while Sahan Wijesinghe, Thilaksha Sumanasiri and Madushan Ravishandra chipped in 2 wickets each. Nikshey Ahamed scored 40 runs while Salman Fazil reached a total of 25 runs.
The Mt Lavinia lads batted sedately for 203 runs for 10 wickets in 73.3 overs. Devin Jayasinghe slashed ahalf century while Nipuna Gamage, Javed Bongso, Thilaksha Sumanasiri, Sahan Wijesinghe and Ravindu Thilakarathne contributed with 28, 24, 21, 20 and 21 runs respectively. Amitha Kaushalya along with Irshad Umara and Wazeem Sinnen sent down 4, 3 and 2 wickets to restrict the Thomians.
Though Zahira boys played better in the 2nd innings, Thomians got them all out in 45 overs while they scored 162 runs. Shehan Weerasinghe and Dileepa Samarasekare contributed 42 and 27 runs while Danush Peiris along with Madushan Ravichandra chipped in 2 and 3 wickets each.
When the score board read 22.1 overs the Thomians got to the target total of 67 for a loss of 2 wickets to win the match. Javed Bongso and Helakamal Nanayakkara scored unbeaten 36 and 23 runs while Wazeem Sinnen sent off 2 wickets in 27 overs.
The match was concluded with the Thomians winning by 8 wickets.
