Rugby Galore as Premier Trophy and Chairman’s Trophy Semi-finals kick off

The Premier and Chairman’s trophy coincides with the Presidents Trophy Knockout championship as schools from around the Island battle it out for Silverware as the XV’s season edges towards its conclusion.

Premier Trophy

D.S Senanayake College vs Mahanama College

Leaders of their group, DS absolutely smashed Mahanama in their encounter worked off on the 28th of August 2022.

The lads from Mahanama College stood no chance as the Senanayakeyans rolled over their opponents to book a place in the semi finals.

Sri Sumangala College vs Maliyadewa College

Meanwhile Maliyadewa College were the second team to make it through as they booked their place beating Sri Sumangala 31 (5T 3C) – 12 (2T 1C).

Sumangala broke down 50-minutes into the game as their slim hopes of any victory were banished by the Maliyadewa lads.

Zahira College vs Lumbini College

Zahira College comprehensively got over the line against Lumbini, beating the latter by 36 (5T 3C) – 05 (1T) in the game worked off at the Royal Complex. Zahira were the first to book their place in the semi final with this victory.

The bounce of the ball went all in favor of Zahira College, putting an end to the Lumbini season.

Thurstan College vs Prince of Wales College

Thurstan College received a walk over as Prince of Wales did not turn up for their outing.

This set up a semi between Zahira and Thurstan as all four contenders set their eyes on the Premier Trophy.

Zahira College vs Thurstan College on 4th September from 2.00pm at Havelock Park

Chairman’s Trophy

Piliyandala Central College, Nalanda College and St. John’s College all qualified for the semi finals of the Chairman’s trophy without having to lace up as Bandaranayake Central College, Sumangala College Panadura and Siri Piyarathana College all failed to turn up for their respective games.

  • Piliyandala Central College received walk-over victory against Bandaranayake Central College
  • Nalanda College received walk-over victory Sumangala College Panadura
  • John’s College received walk-over victory Siri Piyarathana College

Sri Rahula College vs Devapathiraja College

The only Quarter final which took place was played between Sri Rahula College and Dewapathiraja College.

This game was dominated by Sri Rahula College, as they scored a half century, sending Dewapathiraja packing.
