Royal College, St. Joseph’s College, St. Peter’s College, and Trinity College booked their spot in the Cup Semi-finals of the CR&FC Centenary Sevens Tournament, which kicked off today at the CR&FC grounds on the 31st of March.

Royal College won both their matches in the group round, beating Wesley College (15-0) and St Peter’s College (19-12). In the Cup/Plate Quarter-finals, they beat the in-form D. S. Senanayake College in a thrilling come-from-behind win by 21-17.

St Joseph’s College also won both their games in the group stage beating Central College Piliyandala (31-0) and Trinity College (29-17). In the Cup/Plate Quarter-finals, Zahira College gave a slight scare to the Josephians, but they held on to 14-10 win.

St Peter’s College started off the proceedings with a confident win against Wesley College (24-0). However, they came up short against Royal College (19-12) – a thrilling game which went right down to the wire. In the Cup/Plate Quarter-finals, the Peterites held firm against Kingswood College, beating the boys the Randle Hills by 26-17.

Trinity College made it to the Cup/Plate Quarter-finals, beating Central College Piliyandala (19-12) after losing the opening game against St. Joseph’s College (29-17). In the Quarter-finals, they were up against the reigning U18 Sevens Champions Isipathana College. The Green Machine had an off-color day as they were thumped by Trinity College to seal their spot in the Cup Semi-final.

The biggest disappointment of the day was S. Thomas losing both their matches in the group stages. The Dons absolutely hammered the Thomians by 31-5, but they came up short against Kingswood College, losing that game by 14-7.

The Cup Semi-finals in the school segment will take place on Sunday. Royal College will be up against St Joseph’s College, while St. Peter’s College will be facing Trinity College.
