Royal Colombo Golf Club ( RCGC) swept the board by defeating the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club ( NEGC) at the 112th Burdette Cup held in Colombo. The RCGC romped home in the major formats extracting revenge for the previous years’ defeat in Nuwara Eliya.
With the inclement weather holding the golf was of a high standard despite the heavy under growth. Both Clubs fielded strong line ups though Colombo held the edge. Some singles matches ended in nail biting finishes but Colombo held firm to clinch the coveted Cup.
The Puffin Cup which is played between the ladies saw an exciting line up this year. Ms Neesha Nirmalalingam, Manouri jayakoddy and Roshni Sangani won their singles games for RCGC whilst the evergreen Suwaneetha Sevaratnam was the lone sentinel for NEGC.
The Ladies Foursomes went to NEGC with Lady Captain Mich Mirchandani partnered by Rohina Macan Markar leading the way. Niloo Jayatileke/J. Sugathapala and Sumudu Desinghe/ Danny Hamid won their matches whilst the lone winners for RCGC were Sharon Hall/ Irene Scarth.
The Burdette Trophy was hard fought by both teams but RCGC held the edge throughout. The foursomes went RCGC way with a close 2.5 to NEGC 1.5. Primal Wijayanayake/ Chandana Weerasinghe, Sharon fernanado/ Chandana Gunasekere won their games for RCGC whilst Rajeeve Rajapaksa/ Sid Wettimuny were the lone winners for NEGC.
Colombo Captain Mike Magala Perera with WAKO Fernando halved their game against Ravi Wijayguneratne/ Srimath Dias Perera.
