Roaring Wickramabahu comeback shocks Kingswood

Wickramabahu College, Gampola scored twice late in the game as they came from two goals down to draw 3-3 against Kingswood College in the SLSFA U19 Division I Championship group A encounter at the Kingswood College grounds.

At half time Kingswood led 1-0 courtesy Dulin Wijenarayana and he added a second to make it 2-0 in the 2nd half before N.Seepan pulled one back for the visitors. Inoon Ahmed restored the two goal advantage but Bahuvans fought back in the dying stages to score back to back goals and earn a point.

It was a special game for the hill country as these two teams are the only teams from the area that takes part in SLSFA Division I tournament out of 14 teams. Kingswood was on the back of their first win of the tournament against St.Sebastian’s while Wickramabahu was in search of theirs after missing a golden opportunity against Isipathana College at home.

Kingswood College got control of the game from the kick-off as centre forward Dulin Wijenarayana tested the visitors’ goalkeeper from the first move of the game. From that Kingswood forwards broke the visitors defence line but their efforts were not enough to convert in to a goal.

In the 10th minute Kingswood received a free kick on the centre line. Kingswood Skipper, Sri Lanka schools team player Buddika Nishantha got it and placed it into the visitors’ goal area and Dulin sent it to the net with a jumping header and scored the opener for Kingswood.

In the 25th minute Kingswood received another free kick which Buddika took and just missed the crossbar.

Half time – Kingswood College 1 – 0 Wickramabahu College

Dulin struck again in the beginning of the 2nd half and extended the lead to 2-0. It was a corner kick assisted by Sanka Jayamina.

In the 64th minute the visitors received a free kick; A.Seepan got it and placed it to the post where it entered without touching the Kingswood goalkeeper.

Short-handed Isipathana fight back to draw against Wickramabahu

In the 66th minute Inoon Ahmed scored the 3rd for Kingswood which also was a free kick engineered by Buddika. Just after that Inoon received a yellow card due to a reckless tackle.

The visitors did some changes in their positions of play in the last 10 minutes of the game. The changes proved successful when Harsha scored for Wickramabahu in 73rd minute.

From that the visitors showed attacking football and I.Chandrasekara scored the equalizer in the 75th minute. They missed their winning goal chances when one kick returned by rattling the crossbar and one was saved by goalkeeper Ashan Wijerathna with a diving save.
