Referees to blow at Pallekelle

Trinity College will continue to host their home games at Pallekelle Rugby Stadium after the school authorities have assured that proper security measures will be in place for the referees following the incident that took place a fortnight back during the encounter against Science College.

No Referees at Pallekelle until inquiry

Speaking to ThePapare.com, President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society (SLRRS); Nizam Jamaldeen mentioned that the school authorities have provided the green light to the suggestions put forward by the society with regard to the conduct and security of the referees. This has been communicated by the Principal of Trinity College to the SLRRS and thus, the temporary ban imposed upon Pallekelle was lifted.

This move comes after referee Irshad Cader was verbally abused by the Trinity spectators that were present at the Trinity vs Science encounter. Immediately the SLRRS objected to refereeing at Pallekelle until a formal inquiry was held. Soon after the inquiry was concluded, the SLRRS put forward suggestions to the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Association on the guidelines that needed to be met in order to continue refereeing at Pallekelle.

As both parties have reached common ground, the next Trinity match against St. Anthony’s will take place at Pallekelle and referee Priya Suranga will be officiating the game.
