The elite squash tournament, where Sri Lanka’s top-seeded players competed for national glory, the 45th Sri Lanka Senior National Squash Championship 2025, concluded recently at the Air Force Squash Complex, Rathmalana. Sri Lanka’s top-seeded squash player, Ravindu Laksiri, etched history by securing his 13th consecutive Men’s Open Squash title. Meanwhile, Chanithma Sinali successfully defended the Women’s Open Squash title, securing her third national title.
The tournament was organised by Sri Lanka Squash as a PSA Satellite Event, an entry-level professional tournament sanctioned by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and the World Squash Federation (WSF). It is designed to help developing players earn PSA ranking points and gain competitive experience.

In the Men’s Open final, Ravindu clashed with his schoolmate from D. S. Senanayake College and fellow national player, Shameel Wakeel. The duo have together represented Sri Lanka at the South Asian, Asian, Commonwealth, and World Squash Doubles Championships. From the outset, Ravindu stamped his class with highly technical and tactical play, coupled with elegant strokes and nippy movement. As a result, Wakeel was unable to match the defending champion, as Ravindu secured a 3-0 straight-sets victory. This milestone marked Ravindu’s 13th consecutive Men’s Open Squash title, having claimed his first national crown in 2013 as a schoolboy. With this remarkable achievement, Ravindu equalled veteran champion Saman Thilakaratne, who also clinched 13 national titles, though only six were won consecutively. Meanwhile, Nevindu Lakman claimed third place after defeating K. V. Udantha of the Sri Lanka Air Force, who finished fourth.
In the Women’s Open final, the schoolgirl who captured public attention a few weeks ago, Chanithma Sinali of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo, faced her schoolmate Ranliya Wood. Although Ranliya fought valiantly, Chanithma’s expert play earned her a 3-0 straight-sets victory, allowing her to successfully defend her national title. With this impressive title defence, Chanithma demonstrated that her superior skills and performances spoke louder than criticism, silencing armchair critics who had attempted to undermine her.
Chanithma honed her talents under the guidance of her father, veteran coach Mahesh Chandana, who also served as the national coach. She secured her first Senior National title in 2022 while still a school student, and this victory marked her third Senior National crown. However, Chanithma missed the opportunity to secure four consecutive titles after losing to Yeheni Kuruppu in a hard-fought final at the 2023 Senior National Championship. In the bronze medal match, Ifra Booso of St. Paul’s Girls’ School, Milagiriya, defeated Nethmi Wickramasinghe of Ladies’ College.
Mohamed Rilvan secured the Men’s Plate title after defeating I. Buddhika of the Navy Sports Club in another hard-fought final. Meanwhile, Dumindu Thalwatt clinched the Men’s Classic Plate title by beating Ruwan Tharaka of Air Force SC, who finished as runner-up.
Additionally, S. S. Seneviratne of the Sri Lanka Army claimed the Men’s Novices title after defeating Minthaka Ekanayake, while Lakni Edirisinghe of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University secured the Women’s Novices championship. The tournament also featured age-group championship events.
