Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha emerged champions of Under 19 Girls Division One Inter Schools Cricket tournament for the 2nd consecutive time.

Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha beat Devapathiraja College, Rathgama by 27 runs in the final of the tournament played at Ananda Mawatha, Colombo. This tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association with sponsored by Sri Lanka Cricket.

Six teams namely Devapathiraja College, Rathgama, Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha (A), Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda, Wadduwa Central College, Princes of Wales College Moratuwa, Vijayabahu Maha Vidyalaya Okkampitiya participated in this tournament.

Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha won the toss and elected tb bat first in the final. Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya were bowled out 155 runs in 39 overs. Skipper, opener and Sri Lanka Women’s National Cap Vishmi Gunarathne made unbeaten 99 runs in 156 balls with 12 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Nipuni Jayasinghe (20) and Hashini Wijesinghe (14) also chipped in with crucial knocks to build their innings. Malshi Nirasha claimed 4 wickets for 18 runs and Vihara Sewwandi claimed 3 for 41 runs.

In reply, Devapathiraja College, Rathgama posted only 128 runs in 45.3 overs. Skipper Vihara Sewwandi scored 53 runs in 95 balls with 5 boundaries. Nipuni Jayasinghe claimed 4 wickets for 19 runs and Nikesha Wijesekara claimed 2 wickets for 30 runs.

Manuja Kariyapperuma (Manager of  Womens Cricket Development of Sri Lanka Cricket),  Upali Amaratunge, Deputy Director of  Education (Ministry of Eductaion), Thilak Waththuhewa  (President of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and Principal of  Nalanda College Colombo), Mrs. Hema Jayawardhane (Vice President of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and Principal of  Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha), Mrs. Apsari Thilakarathne (Convener, Womens Cricket of Sri Lanka Cricket), Kamal Indrajith (Secretary of SLSCA) and Mrs. Anusha Gunasekara (Girls Tournament Secretary of SLSCA and Teacher in charge of Rathanawali Balika Vidyalaya) were  participated as the guests.
