Ramith Rambukwella architects outright for Tamil Union

Tamil Union bounced back into recognition with a rousing innings and 45 run outright victory over Moors Sports Club with more than a day to spare in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match which concluded at the NCC ground in Maitland Place today.

 

Tamil Union v Moors

The architect of Tamil Union’s victory was undoubtedly the former Sri Lanka youth cap Ramith Rambukwella who almost single handedly destroyed the Moors SC batting with an eight wicket haul in the second innings.

Rambukwella had the satisfaction of capturing the first eight wickets of the Moors SC second innings during a marathon spell of 24 overs and went on to finish with a matchbag of twelve wickets.

Moors SC who were trailing by a massive 326 runs on the first innings were dismissed for 261 runs in their second attempt with only Oshada Fernando (57) and Chaturanga de Silva putting up any kind of resistance.

 

SSC v CCC

Meanwhile the SSC put themselves in contention for an outright victory with a splendid bowling performance on the third day of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match against the CCC which continued at the P. Sara Oval today.

SSC were able to restrict their opponents to 280 for 7 wickets in the second innings with paceman Dhammika Prasad, Jeffrey Vandersay and Tharanga Paranavithana capturing two wickets each.

Opener Sameen Kandanarachchi hit a superb century for the CCC from 112 deliveries with the help of one six and eleven boundaries.

However SSC remained very much in control of the situation as CCC were ahead by only 145 runs with just three second innings wickets in hand.

 

SL Ports v NCC

The match between Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC and the NCC were heading towards an exciting finish after another enthralling contest on the third day of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match which continued at Reid Avenue today.

Ports Authority CC after setting their opponents a challenging victory target of 279 runs got their act together well and came back strongly to claim three early wickets during the NCC second innings.

Earlier Ports Authority CC produced a strong batting performance in their second attempt to reach an impressive 339 runs with skipper Ashan Priyanjan leading the way with a magnificent 124 from 131 deliveries which was studded with three sixes and a dozen of boundaries.

 

SL Army v Ragama CC

Sri Lanka Army Sports Club put up a stunning performance to build up a commanding first innings lead of 218 runs on the third day of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match against Ragama CC which continued at Braybrooke Place today.

Army SC’s run chase was spearheaded by elegant middle order batsman Manjula de Zoysa who hit a trail blazing 204 runs from 451 deliveries inclusive of five sixes and 21 boundaries.

As a result Army SC went on to reach a huge 508 runs for nine wickets in reply to Ragama CC’s modest first innings total of 290 runs.

 

Bloomfield v Colts

Bloomfield were in a strong position to claim first innings points over Colts CC after the second day of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Plate Championship match which continued at Katunayake today.

Bloomfield after piling up a formidable 364 runs in their first innings struck back with an equally good performance on the field to restrict their opponents to 238 for 5 wickets in reply.

Badureliya CC despite a splendid hundred from Andy Solomons were struggling at 346 for 7 wickets in reply to Chilaw Marians CC’s first innings total of 467 runs on the second day of their SLC inter club Premier League Plate Championship match which continued at the BRC ground in Havelock Park today.

 

Panadura v Air Force

Meanwhile Panadura SC were heading towards an outright victory after they restricted Sri Lanka Air Force SC to 175 for 6 in their second innings on day two of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Plate Championship match which continued at Panagoda today.
