Rain hits Hyline v Golden Star

Opening the Premier League Div I group C fixtures, current Kandy League Champions Hyline SC took on Golden Star SC. The game had to be called off at half time due to heavy rain at the Bogambara Stadium.

The second half of the game was postponed as the first half ended goalless.

The game saw an inauspicious start for Golden Star with striker Mohan Raj getting a yellow card. From there onwards the Hyline strikers and midfielders took the game by the scruff of its neck showing skillful football in the midfield but the Golden Star defense didn’t give them any chance to score with Golden Star skipper R.S. Rathnasiri playing a major role in defense.

In the 9th minute Hyline winger Gihan Ishara dribbled the ball to the opposition corner with a speedy run, beating three defenders and crossed it, placing it to the penalty box but center forward Thusitha Ranasingha missed the header.

Steadfast SLTB too good for Old Mazenodians

In the 15th minute Golden star midfielder P.J. Roshan tried to score from the half way line but the goalkeeper collected it well.

In the 30th minute of the first half rain started to fall at the Bogambara Stadium. From that point onwards both teams had no chance to show their usual performances because of the muddy conditions.

Near the end of the first half Mohan Raj missed a rare scoring chance. Raj was one on one with the goalkeeper but was unable to finish it.

New Stars thrash hapless Badovita United

In the last couple of minutes in the first half Hyline was awarded a free kick near the left corner flag. Thusitha Ranasingha placed it into the right corner of the penalty box and skipper Ruwan Sampath’s effort was insufficient to turn it into a goal.
