An impressive all round effort from Priyamal Perera saw home team St. Joseph’s College taking a clear lead in their under 19 school cricket match against Mahinda College at Darley Road yesterday.

At stumps on day one Mahinda were 76 for the loss of five wickets in reply to hosts first innings score of 250 all out.

Perera, the Sri Lanka under 19 all rounder hit a swashbuckling half century and claimed three wickets put the host in a commanding position. He was aggressive with his batting and was effective with his off-spin bowling as he picked up three for 12 runs to go with his well compiled 90 runs. Dylan Fernandopulle also contributed with a crafty 48 to help host reach a decent score in 50.3 overs.  Samitha Kalhara was the pick of the bowler for Mahinda, claiming three for 47 runs while Pasindu Dilshan and Hiroshana Champika took two wickets each.  Dilshan returned figures of two for 25 while Champika captured two for 41 runs. Mahinda suffered a top order collapse with Sachithara Tharuka remained the top score with an unbeaten 19. The match will continue today.
