Prima, Sri Lanka’s leading nutrition company, continues its support for the development of junior golf, sponsoring the Sri Lanka Junior Open, the most prestigious golf championship, for the 17th consecutive year. Their commitment to nurturing young talent will once again shine at the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2025, featuring rising stars from Sri Lanka and overseas. Due to cyclone Ditwah, this tournament, which should have been held in December 2025, was postponed to March 2026.
The championship will be held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) from 6th to 8th March 2026, with a practice round scheduled for 5th March. Tee-off is expected to begin at 7:30 AM each day. The tournament will be a 3-round gross tournament. The player with the lowest aggregate gross in each division will be the divisional winner.

Sajith Gunaratne, General Manager of Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd, Prima Group Sri Lanka, remarked that the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship serves as the benchmark for national rankings in Sri Lanka and that it has been a great privilege for Prima Group Sri Lanka to partner with Sri Lanka Golf for over a decade. He further noted that the Group firmly believes its sponsorship provides a unique opportunity each year to be part of a journey that recognises and empowers young aspiring players, supporting them in developing their potential and striving for excellence in the sport.
Recognised as the benchmark for the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) in junior golf, the Sri Lanka Junior Open crowns the national junior champion in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, bringing gender recognition.
Prima’s steadfast support has significantly shaped Sri Lanka’s junior golf landscape. Over the last year, two junior golfers from the Anuradhapura Academy, namely Adhithya Weerasinghe and Lavidu Premarathna, have gained World Amateur Golf Ranking status. They will join other ranked junior golfers, Jevahn Sathasivam, Reshan Algama and Kaya Daluwatte. Notable improvements have been seen in Lavidu Premarathne, Thejas Rathiskanth, Udheera Bandara and Jacob Norton. This year’s Junior Open winner can be a player who belongs to either the Gold or Silver category, making the tournament more competitive. The other categories on offer are Bronze and Copper. There will be strong contention for category winners amongst the field of players. Thejas Rathiskanth, Janeesh Weerasinghe, Kaitlyn Norton, Sithara Lorance, Venudi Keerthana, Vihara Herath, Dulkini Kangara, Fathima Zeeniya, Mushfira Muzammil, Yuvan Rathiskanth, Thisura Premarathne, Usara Nugegoda, Abhiman Weerasinghe, Jaedan Sathasivam, Ananya Krishanthan and Hakshhara Pradeep are some of the kids vying for top honours within their category.
Ranil Pieris, Immediate Past President of Sri Lanka Golf, said, “SLG welcomes and is grateful for Prima’s enduring partnership. Prima has been instrumental in making this event one of the most sought-after tournaments of our national golf calendar. It showcases the talents of Sri Lanka’s young golf talent and is a testament to Prima’s commitment to the sport.”
As the title sponsor, Prima Sunrise Bread will provide nutritional support for all players throughout the championship. The tournament will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony on 8th March at 3.00 PM.
Commodore Mangala Mummullage, Chairperson of the Junior Development Committee, highlighted the broader impact of Prima’s sponsorship. “Prima Sunrise’s steadfast commitment over more than a decade has played a transformative role in shaping the junior golfing landscape in Sri Lanka. Their continued support has created a structured and competitive platform for young golfers to excel at the national level and progressively develop towards national representation. Through the sponsorship of the Sri Lanka Junior Open and the Regional Junior Opens, Prima Sunrise has been instrumental in providing consistent tournament exposure, fostering talent identification, and strengthening the pathway for junior golfers to advance within the sport.”
