Premier League showdown this weekend

After months of grueling competition, Sri Lanka’s number one club cricket tournament, the Premier league has reached its final stages with the finalists being unearthed.

The final will take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds on the 5th, 6th,7th April 2013.

In a champion display, SSC mounted 787 for 8 declared with skipper Thilina Kandamby in a mammoth spell scoring 340 not out. Kaushal Silva 180, Dimuth Karunaratne 115 and Upul Jayasena 86 piled on the agony for the hapless Tamil Union routing them on first innings points.  Even the Sri Lanka national spearheads Chanaka Welagedara  4/131 and Rangana Hearth 4/132 were unable to stop the rampaging SSC.   In the league so far they have won 7 matches and drawn 2 in their allotted 9 matches accumulating 144 points.

Tamil Union who have won 129 points with 7 wins and 2 drawn games, managed just 314 in reply to the SSC with Mahela Udawatte and Ashen Silva managing 47 each.  Kaushalya Lokuarachchi for SSC was the pick of the bowlers getting 4 wickets for 136 runs.

Moors Sports Club took on Panadura Sports Club in another match at Moors grounds, Baybrooke place which Moors won by 7 runs a game going down to the wire.  Moors scored 240 runs all out with Harsha Cooray top scoring on 67 while Gayan Sirisoma bagged 5 for 41 in favour of Panadura.   Malinda Pushpakumara bagged 7/56. 

Moors crashed into the final amassing 123 points while Panadura had to back out of the race on 119.
