Former Science College skipper and Sri Lanka No. 8 Lasindu Ishan Karunathilake will lead the CR & FC rugby outfit in the 2025/2026 season, which is expected to commence later this year. This role is not new to him, as he has already served as the stand-in captain during the previous club league campaign.

Lasindu will make history as the first rugby player from Science College to captain the Red Shirts at Longdon Place. Nicknamed “Kara” (The Thug), he is renowned for his immense power and dominant playing style.

Lasindu first caught the attention of the rugby fraternity after leading Science College to their maiden Milo President’s Trophy Knockout Championship in 2015 — the school’s first and only major title to date. He later represented the Sri Lankan youth team and was subsequently recruited by the prestigious Havelock Sports Club.

He eventually moved to CR & FC and has since become a key figure in the team, known for his game-controlling ability and relentless work ethic. His command at the breakdown and explosive counterattacks have proven to be game-changers in high-intensity matches. His spirited performances were instrumental in helping CR & FC break a 26-year title drought and claim the league title.

Under his captaincy, CR & FC will be looking to bounce back after an unsuccessful title defense last season and reclaim their place at the top.
