Police SC takes control of Colombo Open Archery

The Inaugural Colombo Open Archery Championship flew off from the flexes of the archers bows at the Campbell park today, in flying fashion. The tournament is held from the 22nd February (today) to the 24th February.

The Sri Lankan archers had three gold medals up for bragging rights on the first day of the inaugural competition and spectators were not disappointed with the fabulous show of skill and class.

Organized as a joint effort by the Racecourse Archery Club and the Sagittarians Archery Club, with WiaWis, Promate and Hellibees as the event partners, the 1st ever Colombo Open Archery Championship greeted a participation record of over 160 archers who will compete across the Under 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 age group categories, while the more seasoned contestants will vie for honors in the Open and Over 40 categories.

The junior categories were flown off by the archers in the morning session with Kavin Premarathne of Nalanda College winning the gold in the 70m category followed up by Savindu Senevirathne of the Colombo Archery school in second and Kamesh Wijesekara of D.S.Senanayake college just missing out to secure the third place. 

The junior category preceded the 50m compound open category as Sarath Gamage of Police Sports Club won the event in commanding fashion followed up by Peshala Kalansooriya of the Racecourse Sports Club and Amila Jayasinghe of Colombo Archery School being placed second and third, respectively.

The final event of the day turned out to be the much awaited Men’s Team 70M open finals. This was easily won by the participants from Police Sports Club. Chandana Abegunasekara, Lakmal Ranasinghe and Bathiya Bandara compiled the winning combination for the event.

Tomorrow will host the second day of the tournament with all age groups and the Open category being contested in both Male and Female segments while the Over 40 will be contested as a mixed competition.
