Treat Conrad Huey (L) plays with Dominic Inglot in the Australian Open Doubles quarter-finals this week. He will be the best out of the four-member Philippine team which will play in the Davis Cup next week against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

The Philippine national men’s tennis team will be a very tough opponent for the Lankans, said Sri Lanka’s Non-playing Captain of this year’s Davis Cup, Rohan de Silva on Thursday. Sri Lanka will meet Philippines in the Asia-Oceania Zone Group-II Round 1 tie, from January 31 to February 2, at the SLTA hard courts in Colombo.

Out of two rounds to be held in the course of year 2014, Sri Lanka needs to win at least one to remain in Group-II for another year.

“This will be a very tough tie especially because two of their players are really good. One of them, Treat Huey, played in the quarter-final stage of the Men’s Doubles in the ongoing Australian Open. Ruben Gonzales (another player in the Philippine team) also played in the Australian Open qualifiers this year. So, naturally they will form a very tough opposition for us this time,” said de Silva.

Treat Conrad Huey, 28, an American of Filipino descent, is the best of the four-member Philippine team and is currently ranked impressively in the 22nd position of world Men’s Doubles. He, partnering Great Britain’s Dominic Inglot, lost narrowly in the Aus Open Doubles this week against the pair of American Eric Butorac and South African Raven Klaasen in a three setter.

The other two members of the Philippine team are Johnny Arcilla and Patrick-John Tierro. Their Non-playing Captain will be Roland Kraut.
