The Cricket Foundation of St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4, launched the Peterite Cricket League – Season 3 (PCL3) in the presence of Rev. Fr. Anton Ranjith , the Vice Rector of the school & Dr Nicholas Jayasekara, President of the OBU.

The eight franchise based tournament is aimed at bringing together past and present Peterites and renew their comradeship. First held in December 2011, this years’ edition is scheduled for Sunday, 15 September at the Colombo Colts Cricket Grounds commencing 8.00 am.

The eight franchises are known as Titans, Romans, Pirates, Vikings, Gladiators, Warriors, Knights and Spartans. The owners of the eight franchises are distinguished old boys of the College.

The Six-a- side   tournament will be played based on the reputed Hong Kong Sixes format. The tournament will be played for the Cup, Plate and Bowl categories. Building on the inaugural edition, the organizers have introduced fully colored clothing for this year. All matches will be played using white leather balls.

The tournament will be played for Rev. Fr. Sunil Herman Perera Trophy. Fr. Sunil was the Sports Coordinator of St. Peter’s College for seven years. There were many achievements by sports teams during that time.

The Runner-up Trophy has been named after late Austin Fernando, former Master-in-Charge of Cricket at College for nearly 40 years. 

The Best Batsman’s award is named after probably the most elegant batsman the country has produced, Roy Dias while the Best Bowler’s award has been named after Rumesh Ratnayake, who in 1980s terrorized even some of the great West Indians with his sling arm action. Both ex-cricketers were products of St. Peter’s College.

A special event that would happen this year will be the reunited 1996 cricket world champions will also take the field Dressed in their World Cup winning kits,  to take on the mighty Peterite side. The Exhibition 6 a side match will be played as a fund raiser for needy children and is the main theme for the Tournament this year – CRICKET FOR A CAUSE.

At the player auction held, each franchise owner was allowed to pick 8 players for their squad comprising of two international/club players, two veterans over the age of 40 years and a player each from the under 23, 24-30 years and 30-40 years categories. Each squad was also allocated a player from the current 1st XI team.

Pirates : Malin Silva, Dinesh Panditharatne, Suranga Rodrigo, Shasheen Fernando, Brijesh Jeganathan, Asanga Perera(C), Dulip Gunasekara, Chandula Jayamaha 

Gladiators : Gihan De Silva, Angelo Emmanual, Shanaka Fernando, Ranitha Liyanarachchi, Lorient Mosses, Indunil Anthony(C), Walter Fernando, Sudil Dissanayake

Warriors: Chathura Peiris, Shivanga Ranasuriya, Sheehan Wijetunge, Lahiru Milantha, Fizal Mohamed, Roshan Anthony(C), Dinesh Kekulthota, Sahan Nanayakkara
