On a gloomy afternoon in Mount Lavina, Isipathana College kicked off the first quarter final of the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament to the whistle of Pradeep Fernando. Pathana started brightly as Peters conceded many easy penalties at the breakdown. However although it was all Pathana in the start the boys from Bambalapitiya struck back as Peterite fullback D.C. Fernando made a mad dash through the Pathana defense line towards the try line and set up flanker S.D. Gurusinghe to score the opening try of the game. M.S.R. Jayawickrama converted the try successfully to make the score 7-nil in favor of St. Peter’s College.

Isipathana College tried hard to break through the Peterite defense in the dying minutes of the first half although it was all in vain as Peters managed to end the first half with a 7-nil lead.

Delpachira powered his way through the Isipathana defense as if they were not present to score beside the post to hand Peters the initiative in the game. M.S.R. Jayawickrama converted the try successfully to hand Peters a 14-nil lead in the game.

Isipathana looked to strike back but the Peterite defense held firm, however with 5 minutes left on the clock Pathana managed to cut the lead to 7points as the outside center somehow managed to sneak through the Peters defense and dash down to score under the post.
