St. Peter’s College took on Nalanda College at Nalanda grounds in the U19 division 1 tournament. Peter’s still waiting to make their mark in this season after some average performances in the previous matches.

The Petes won the toss and put Nalanda to bat considering the overcast conditions. Chandula Jayamanna’s decision was spot on  when wickets started to stumble in the first few overs. Star with the ball for St Peter’s was Randle Senevirathne who used the overcast condition perfectly and swung the ball both ways leaving the Nalandians no chance of getting easy runs. He claimed his tournament best figures of 4 for 25 while Ashanth Malka who was yet again among wickets by taking  3 wickets for 18 runs. Nalanda College were bundled out for just 112 runs with Asel Kularathne scoring highest score of just 22 runs.

The Peterites came out to bat full of confidence after a good batting performance in the last match and a brilliant bowling performance in the first innings. Two openers got into a flying start. Both Hashan Wanasekara and Dineth Thimodya scoring half centuries. Dineth carrying his good form from the previous match where he scored a brilliant century followed by a half century in the second innings in the previous match. Middle order batsman Didulana Mendis scored a handy 59 helping St. Peter’s to score 204 runs for the loss of only 4 wickets in just 37.4 overs before declaring their innings.

Nalandians came into bat trailing by 96 runs. Once again they failed to withstand the powerful bowling attack of St. Peter’s College. It was the spinners who took the attack to the Nalandians. Ashanth Malka bagging 3 wickets for just 40 runs, Thanisha Weerakoon taking 2 wickets for 16 runs and captain Chandula Jayamanna bagging 2 wickets for just runs. Nalanda College was bundled out for just 93 runs which gave St. Peter’s an innings and 3 runs victory.
