Pelicans SC & Comrades SC booked their places in the 2016 Premier League Division I semi-finals winning with a 2-0 score line in their quarter final matches against St.Mary’s SC and Green Field SC respectively.

Shanmugaraja Sanjeev scored twice in the first half as Pelicans SC defeated St.Mary’s SC 2-0 at the Maliyadeva College grounds.  

It was a slow start to the game as both the teams took time to settle their nerves.

Pelicans attacked during the first half and St.Mary’s defenders blocked well but even with a tight defense Pelicans SC did create a number of chances which put them on their way into the semifinals.

In the 11th and 36th minutes of the game Sanjeev managed to convert two of those chances as the hosts led at half time.

In the 2nd half the visitors started off brightly with Madushanka Jayathilake keeping out a St.Mary’s corner in the 56th minute while kept out a number of chances created by the visiting forwards.

St.Mary’s SC were given hope when Pelicans SC were reduced to 10 men as Mohamed Infaz was red carded in the 70th minute, a minute after he was given a yellow card for a rash tackle.

However Pelicans defended well and won the match.

Nauman and Lakmal guides Comrades

Mohamed Nauman scored in the 20th minute while Nuwan Lakmal added the 2nd in the 82nd minute as Comrades SC defeated Green Field SC 2-0 at the Vincent Dias Stadium.

Mohamed Dasleen of Green Field SC was given the only yellow card of the match.
