The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has unveiled a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, set to take place on August 29 and 31 at Harare Sports Club in Harare.
The squad features three notable changes from the team that competed in their last ODI series against Bangladesh in July 2025.
- Sasanka Nirmal 10-fer powers United Southern SC to victory
- Schedule announced for Sri Lanka U19 tour of West Indies 2025
The wrist-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga who sustained a hamstring injury on his right leg during the ODI series against Bangladesh, will miss the ODIs against Zimbabwe. The opening batter Avishka Fernando and speedster Eshan Malinga have also faced the axe.
The highlight of the squad announcement is the maiden ODI call-up for Pavan Rathnayake, a 22-year-old batting prodigy who has been making waves in domestic cricket and ‘A’ tours.
Rathnayake, a run-machine with 2,510 runs in 79 List A matches at an impressive average of 44.82, is set to bring his consistent form to the international stage.
Joining Rathnayake is Nuwanidu Fernando, a 25-year-old batter who has been recalled to the ODI squad after a nine-month hiatus.
