Panadura beat CCC

Panadura Cricket Club came out with a fine all round performance to beat the more fancied CCC team by a convincing margin of 63 runs in their SLC Premier limited overs cricket tournament group ‘A’ encounter worked off at Maitland Crescent yesterday.

The lads from Panadura hit up a decent 195 runs from their 50 overs after having been put into bat and then performed well on the field to defend that score while dismissing their opponents for just 132 runs from 31 overs.

The Panadura CC innings was built around a fighting half century from all rounder Chandana Aravinda who came to their rescue with a splendid knock of 62 runs from 68 deliveries  studded with two sixes and seven boundaries

The dynamic wicket keeper batsman came into bat at a vital stage of the innings when Panadura CC were struggling to put up a respectable score on the board after having collapsed to 51 for 6 at one stage in the 18th over.

However Charitha Buddhika joined Chandana Aravinda and the pair repaired the early damage with some sensible batting as they went on to put the team in a safe position by adding a superb 114 runs for the seventh wicket.

Charitha Buddhika  fell four runs short of his half century having played another match winning innings which included four boundaries

The Panadura CC opening bowler then gave his team a flying start by removing both CCC openers cheaply to push the home side on the defensive from the very beginning.

In fact CCC never recovered following this early setback as they lost wickets at regular intervals while failing to build up any significant partnership throughout the innings.

Shalik.a Karunanayake was their top scorer with a run a ball 38 studded with five boundaries but the rest of the batting simply collapsed against the pace spin combination of Charitha Buddhika, Gayan Sirisoma and Koshan Danushka.

In fact former Nalanda College spinner Koshan Danushka had a fine game while returning the best figures of three wickets for 20 runs from just five overs.

Panadura CC: 195 in 50 overs (Supeshala Jayathilaka 22, Charitha Buddhika 46, Chandana Aravinda 62, Arosh Janodha 3/25, Chaturanga Kumara 2/36)

CCC: 132 in 31 overs (Shalika Karunanayake 38, Hasantha Fernando 24, Charitha Buddhika 3/42, Gayan Sirisoma 3/23, Koshan Danushka 3/20)
