The 19th match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 between Pakistan Women and New Zealand Women was also called off due to rain on Saturday (18th October) at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
After opting to bowl first, New Zealand sent both Pakistan openers back to the pavilion for 30 within 7.1 overs. Lea Tahuhu, returning to the side, trapped Omaima Sohail in front, while Muneeba Ali, who was batting well on 22, was dismissed by Jess Kerr courtesy of a sharp catch by Suzie Bates at short mid-wicket.

The wickets kept tumbling as Pakistan were reduced to 80 for 5 in 19.5 overs. Sidra Amin became Tahuhu’s second victim, with Eden Carson holding onto a fine catch at backward point. New Zealand’s fielding, which was below par in the Sri Lanka game, looked much improved today. Aliya Riaz was batting solidly, but Pakistan also lost Natalia Pervaiz and captain Fatima Sana cheaply in consecutive overs.
Pakistan’s innings was interrupted twice by rain, first after the fall of the third wicket in the 13th over. Play resumed at 5:35 PM with 46 overs per side, but after the 25th over, rain stopped play again. When the covers were removed at 7:30 PM, officials decided to resume the action at 7:50 PM with 36 overs per side. However, just minutes later, the rain returned, forcing the ground staff to bring the covers back on.
Due to steady rain, play could not resume, and both Pakistan and New Zealand received one point each. It was the second consecutive washed-out game for both teams and the fourth overall in Colombo. The match between Sri Lanka and Australia was also abandoned without a toss two weeks ago, while the Sri Lanka–New Zealand and Pakistan–England games ended with no result. As a result, South Africa became the second team to qualify for the semifinals, while New Zealand’s chances of a top-four finish are now slipping away.
