Outstanding batting performance by Thurstan Juniors

Thurstan College, Colombo juniors were too good for the Christ King College, Ja-Ela today in the Singer Schools U13 Division 01 Cricket tournament, when they scored 206 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets. Here is the wrap up of the matches played today.

Singer Schools U13 Division 01 Cricket Tournament match played today at Thurstan grounds Colombo. The home team won the toss and invited the visiting team Christ King College to bat first and bowled them out for 114 runs completing 42.4 overs. Sharith Perera was the highest runs scorer and he scored 45 runs while Avishka Nirmal scored 21 runs. Navindu Fernando grabbed 4 wickets for 16 runs and Thisan Ranasinghe took 2 wickets for 15 runs.

In chase of the target Thurstan replied scoring a quick 206 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the 36  overs and declared their inning searching for an outright win. Janith Herath was outstanding when he puts up 89 runs on the board while Vihal Sewmika and Thisan Ranasinghe were  unbeaten scoring 64 runs and 33 runs respectively.

Batting their second inning the juniors from Ja Ela scored 52 runs losing 3 wickets in 15 overs when the umpires called it off for the day. Savindu Peris was not out 23 runs and Lithika Sudusinghe took 2 wickets for 13 runs.

The match ended up a draw with first innings points to Thurstan College, Colombo.

Peter’s juniors visited Horethuduwa today to play in a Singer Schools U13 Division 01 Cricket Tournament match with Sri Chandrasekara MV. After winning the toss St. Peter’s College invited the host team to bat first and bowled them out for 136 runs after completing 57 overs. Supun Suwaris scored 68 runs as the highest scorer for the home team and Rasmitha Peris added 36 runs on the board. Pasindu Silva chipped in with 3 wickets for 34 runs while Eathan Ranasinghe, Shehan Rathnayake, Sachin Perera shared 2 wickets each.

In return the visiting team St. Peter’s scored 144 runs losing 8 wickets in the process, completing 33.4 overs, when the umpires stopped the day’s play. Pasindu Silva scored 39 runs, Lashen Pushpakumara scored 38 runs and Asadisa De Silva scored 22 runs. Supun Suwaris grabbed 4 wickets for 33 runs.

A low scoring match ended up in a draw today in the Singer Schools U13 Division 01 Cricket Tournament played at CMS grounds, where Sri Jayawardanapura MV took on Zahira College. Home team juniors from Kotte won the toss and invited the visiting team Zahira to bat first and bowled them out for just 58 runs completing 52.5 overs. Biyanka Perera and Vihisara Weerasinghe demolished the batting line up taking 4 wickets for 10 runs and 3 wickets for 20 runs respectively.

Chasing a small target Sri Jaya MV scored 77 runs losing 4 wickets in 16 overs and decided to declare their inning to go for an outright win. Biyanka Perera scored 20 runs not out while Mohomed Salman took 3 wickets for 27 runs.

In return Zahira was more stable in their 2nd inning when they scored 67 runs for the loss of 2 wickets completing 31 overs when the umpires called it a day. Mohomed Ijaz scored 30 runs not out.

The match ended up a draw with the first inning points to Sri Jaya MV, Kotte.
