Old Peterite Veterans secure Mike Chanmugam Challenge Trophy

Peter Dekker led Old Peterite Veterans beat Thomian Masters by 5 wickets in the encounter played at the Colts ground on Sunday (31st) for the Mike Chanmugam Challenge Trophy.

Thomian Masters batting first managed to get 129 runs with the match reduced to 25 overs-side and their inform batsman Vajira Wijegunawardena playing a major role stroked a gallant 45 runs with Suresh Bulankulame contributing 23 runs. Susan Bandare and Sherby Van Heer captured 3 wickets apart while Sujeewa Dahanayake claimed 2 wickets. Shafiq Rahim behind the stumps had four dismissals with 3 catches and a successful stumping earned him the Man of the Match award. 

Old Peterite Veterans Chasing the total, opener Damian Tissaraachchy played a superb knock of unbeaten 52 runs including 06 boundaries, and Shafiq Rahim’s contribution of 23 runs saw Old Peterite Veterans winning the game by 5 wickets pocketing the Mike  Chanmugam Challenge Trophy. Reputed former cricketer Mahinda Halangoda had a Match haul of 3 wickets.
