Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Provinces dominate the NSF Beach Volleyball Tournament 2025
The Beach Volleyball Championship of the 49th National Sports Festival concluded successfully at the Dadella Beach, Galle, during the last weekend. The event was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the collaboration of the Department of Sports Development. After a series of exhilarating games and thrilling actions, the Sabaragamuwa Province men and Eastern Province women displayed their class and secured the gold medals.
In the much electrified men’s event, the lads from Sabaragamuwa shone above all others to clinch the gold medal. In the final, the North Western Province (Wayamba) duo gave a good fight, but the winners were clinical enough to resist the challenge. Hence, the lads from Wayamba emerged as the silver medallists. But surprisingly, the Western Province, who were widely regarded as title contenders, had to be satisfied with a bronze medal. In the meantime, with some spectacular and unwavering performance throughout the weekend, A. K. M. C. N. Perera of Sabaragamuwa Province emerged as the “Best Male Player of the Tournament”.
Winners of the men’s segment
In the women’s tournament, last time silver medallists Eastern women managed to beat the lasses from North Western Province to clinch the gold. Kasuni Tharuka Lakshani and Wasana Madhushani, who were the past volleyball players of Mihindupura Vidyalaya, Trincomalee, featured in the winning combination. After displaying some steady performances in the tournament, North Western Province (Wayamba) bagged the silver medal by just going down to the champions in the crucial final game. Sabaragamuwa ladies also had a good tournament on the beach and managed to secure a podium finish with a bronze medal.

By rendering her service and being a pillar of success during their gold medal mission, A. K. T. Lakshani of Sabaragamuwa Province emerged as the “Best Female Player of the Tournament”.
