NSF 2025 Boxing; Western Province pugilists punch hard to seal their dominance

After some shocking battles, Western Province clinched the overall championship of the 49th National Sports Festival by stamping their supremacy and authority for yet another year (with a medal bag of 8 golds, 2 silvers and 8 bronzes). The pugilists from Southern and Central Provinces chased them closely and won 1st and 2nd runners-up titles, respectively.

After a close tussle, the Men’s Championship went to Western Province from a gap of just a silver medal (with a medal bag of 4 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronzes). The Central Province fighters clinched the men’s runners-up title with a medal bag of 4 golds, 0 silvers and 7 bronzes, while Southern Province sealed the 2nd runners-up position.

There was another close battle for the Women’s Championship, and the Southern ladies managed to edge out the Western ladies to clinch the title with a medal bag of 4 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes. The western side fought bravely but went down by just a couple of silver medals, as they managed to accumulate 4 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronzes. Apart from them, the Northern ladies managed to make a bold impact in the meet by sealing the 2nd runners-up position.The best boxer awards went to G. H. Thissararachchi of Western Province (men’s) and S Jasmitha (women’s) of Northern Province.
