Past Prefects’ Association of Zahira College Colombo will be organizing the Nolimit 18th Zahira Super 16 soccer 7’s tournament for the 8th consecutive time this year which will be held throughout the entire day at Race Course International Stadium on 08th of December 2024.
Sixteen of the country’s top football-playing schools are set to compete in the prestigious Nolimit 18th Zahira Super 16 soccer 7’s, a platform designed to showcase young players’ immense talent and skill on a grand scale. This year, the event reaches a new milestone with the inclusion of an overseas participant, Stafford Sri Lankan School, Doha, adding an exciting global dimension to the competition.
The tournament will adopt a high-intensity 7-a–side format, a thrilling variation that promises action–packed games and an unparalleled experience for players and spectators alike. This format’s fast-paced and dynamic style aims to captivate audiences and enhance the tournament’s appeal, drawing a larger crowd to support the event.
Of the 16 teams, 8 schools have secured direct entry into the main event, thanks to their outstanding performances in the previous year’s competition. Another 12 teams battled fiercely in a qualifier round held on 9th November at Moragasmulla Grounds, Rajagiriya. From this intense competition,7 schools emerged victorious, earning their place in the final lineup.
As Sri Lanka seeks to elevate its presence in the global football arena, this tournament is a vital step toward achieving international recognition. By fostering talent and providing young players with exposure to high-caliber competition, the event underscores its significance in shaping the future of Sri Lankan football.
