The most passionate schools rugby league was set to be postponed but the officials of Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Association (SLSRFA) have confirmed that it will commence as scheduled from 21st February.

Previously SLSRFA said that due to the unavailability of the grounds and schools cricket big matches due to be played, they came to a decision to postpone the event for a month.

However, Mr. Denzil Darling the secretary of SLSRFA confirmed today that the league will commence as scheduled, with the division 3&2 to be played from the week starting 21st February and the top division games on Friday and the weekends in the same week.

The defending champions Isipathana College will travel to Kandy to lock horns with Dharmaraja College in the opening week.

St. Peter’s v St. Anthony’s will kick off with the Rector’s trophy at Bambalapitiya grounds, Wesley and Trinity match also expected to be a cracker, whilst Royal v St. Joseph’s to more spice for the first week of the league.

Meanwhile promoters to the top division Zahira College and Prince of Wales College will be playing for the survival battle. Both these colleges produced a national player each for the Sri Lanka U19 which toured Malaysia last year to compete in Asia U19 championship. Wajid Fahmy of Zahira College is currently playing for Police SC together with Udaya Pothupitiyage of Prince of Wales College.
