Problems at Longdon Place continue  as CR & FC head coach Nifler Ibrahim has tendered his resignation mid-season of the Dialog Rugby League 2018/19.

His move comes after CR & FC’s disappointing 33-10 defeat against CH & FC last weekend at Racecourse. After a promising start in the Dialog Rugby League in the 1st three weeks, the Red Shirts have hit a downward slope with continuous losses.

Despite finishing third in the Dialog Rugby League at the end of the 1st round, the CR & FC side have not recorded a single win the last three weeks losing out to Police and CH & FC while drawing against Army.

“He(Nilfer) has tendered his resignation and we have appointed Mohammed Mushtaq as the team’s coach for the rest of the season” added CR & FC’s Rugby Committee representative Jivan Goonethilake. This will mean that the CR & FC manager and the former Sri Lanka national sevens represent Mushtaq will take charge of the club as interim coach until a permanent solution is found.

Pavithra Fernando will operate as team manager while forwards coach Anuranga Walpola will continue his tenure. The turnaround comes at a very crucial point in the Dialog Rugby League this year. With less than 5 weeks to go, CR & FC are in a quest to finish in the top 4 of the table to be able to qualify for the Super Round.

The Red Shirts will play Havelock Sports Club this week as they fight it out for the Mathysz Trophy.
