The NexGen Champions League, organized by Colombo Kickerz Football Academy, kicked off last Saturday (19th April) at Moragasmulla Grounds, in Rajagiriya.
The tournament saw 6 teams take part in the U12 & U14 age categories, with Cooray Football Academy, Java Lane Soccer Academy, Renown Football Academy, Saunders Sports Club and host Colombo Kickerz, with two teams each to round off the 6 participating teams.
Matchday 1 was hosted by Colombo Kickerz at Moragasmulla Grounds, Rajagiriya, as 6 intense battles took place.
Cooray Football Academy held Colombo Kickerz White to a goal-less draw, while Renown defeated Java Lane 2-0. Kickerz Blue managed to get the better of Saunders 1-0 in the final U12 game.
In the U14 segment, Cooray Football Academy defeated Colombo Kickerz White 1-0, while Renown ended the day with two wins as their U14s defeated Java Lane 1-0. Kickerz Blue too were defeated 1-0 in their encounter versus Saunders, as a late goal sealed the game for the team in Yellow.
The League sees 5 weeks of round robin action, with a Final to be contested between the top two placed teams in both age groups at the end of the 5 weeks of action.
Matchday 2 of the League will take place on the 3rd of May.
