Sri Lanka were 321 for 5 in their second innings at stumps on the final day. Dhanushka Gunathilake was the top scorer with 83 runs while Kusal Mendis scored a brisk 72. Dickwella also managed to chip in with an unbeaten 43 runs. Early on, Sri Lanka made 210 for 9 in their first innings and in response New Zealand XI made 270 for 8 in their first innings.
Another good day with the bat for the tourists. Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya De Silva started off the day slowly. De Silva once again failed to capitalize the start that he got but Kusal Mendis made full toll out of the opportunity. He stroked 8 boundaries and 2 maximums in his knock of 72. It was much needed for the youngster as he missed out on the first innings.
Skipper Chandimal failed to impress in the 2nd innings when he missed a straight delivery off the chinaman Coburn. Roshen Silva looked good while he was there but he couldn’t convert his start to a big score when he chipped a short delivery straight to the cover fielder.
Dickwella had a point to prove in the second innings after he went for a golden duck. He did so in his flamboyant fashion scoring a brisk 43 off just 56 deliveries. His challenger for the spot in the side, Sadeeera Samarawickrama also got a chance in the middle and looked rock solid as the pair remained unbeaten until the end of the day.
