Nepal take revenge on Sri Lanka

Nepal took revenge on Sri Lanka for the SAFF Suzuki Cup loss with a reverse of the 1-0 defeat, in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup. 

Nepal registered victory after 28 months as the Gorkhalis beat Sri Lanka 1-0 in the group stage game of Bangabandhu Gold Cup 2016.

Bimal Gharti Magar scored the match winner in 4th minute of the game utilizing pass off Rabin Shrestha and with the help of poor goalkeeping by Ruwan Arunasiri, where he let the ball burst through his hand.

It was Magar who put goal drought to an end with his goal against India in recently held SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015.

Nepal last won against India by 2-1 in SAFF Championship 2013 held in Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu.

Gorkhali made a remarkable start through the game as Bimal Gharti Magar netted the ball in the 2nd minute of the match. After taking the lead they played a comfort game against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka enjoyed the ball possession but it was Nepal which created more chances. Among Anjan Bista’s attempt in first half injury was a classy one when he was brilliantly blocked by Lankan defenders in the flank.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first half seeing Nepal making waves of attacks from the start.

Heman Gurung optimized the first chance for the team in the 51st minute as he penetrated on a power shot.

Seven minutes later, Bikram Lama squandered another opportunity when he saw his shot from the box flying above the bar.

Magar was adjudged the man of the match.
