Negombo Youth record their first win

Negombo Youth recorded their first victory in the Dialog Champions League 2013 at the expense of Super Sun SC. This was a matchup between Group A’s bottom two teams.

Negombo Youth and Super Sun have been performing poorly and this was an opportunity to get some life into their Champions League campaign. After an evenly contested first half both teams went into the breather nill all. Ten minutes into the second half the visitors D.H. Peiris scored what proved to be the winner in the end. With time running out and the tensions rising D.P. Perera of Super Sun and Nimal Fernando of Negombo Youth were red carded after disorderly conduct. 

Blue Star beat Matara City Club 1-0 at the Matara Football Complex. Both teams played attacking football from the opening whistle and were only able to break the deadlock in the 81st minute when Blue Star’s Afeez Olayemi scored the winner. Matara City Club had a few chances towards the end of the match but failed to score.

Saunders’ Chalana Chameera had a match to forget when he scored an own goal and was also sent off in a space of 8 minutes as Saunders’ squeezed out a 1-1 draw against Colombo FC. After a quiet first half both teams came out with an aggressive gameplan in the second half. Mohamed Fayasil of Colombo FC was shown a straight red card in the 51st minute. In a moment of madness Chalana Chameera put the ball into his own net in the 61st minute. Chameera was given his marching orders when he received his second yellow minutes after and both teams were down to 10 men. Mohamed Rimzan equalized for Saunders in the 75th minute.

Nandimithra Sports Club beat Renown SC 1-0 at Kew Points road. This was an important win for Nandimithra as there climbed out of the bottom two in Group B. D.A. Jayashan scored the winner in the 66th minute.
