A splendid double by Thiwanka Kakulawela (62 runs & 03 for 17) and a 03 wickets burst in the very first over by paceman, Sampath Nishshanka helped Nawaloka Hospital PLC. to cruise to a crushing 190-runs win over LOLC Holdings, in the 04th National Development Bank sponsored, “NDB Trophy” – MCA “C” division 50 Over League Tournament Final 2024, on Sunday, 29th September, at the Bloomfield A&AC grounds.
Nawaloka Hospitals, who won the toss & opted to bat, finished with a respectable 265 for 08 in 50 Overs, riding on the 06th wicket partnership of 86 runs in 94 balls, between Thiwanka Kakulawela (62 in 87 balls, inclusive of 05 fours & a six) & Samila Nadeesh (51 in 37 balls, inclusive of 03 fours & 03 sixes).
Earlier on, No. 03 batsman, Raveen Sayer (44 in 46 balls) & No. 05 batsman Dileepa Nilupul (31 in 46 balls) steadied the innings when they lost 03 early wickets.
After paceman, Sampath Nishshanka (05/28 / 04) got the vital wickets of Ranga de Silva, Kanishka Perera & Sayuru Udukumbura (all without scoring) in the opening over itself, & the unnecessary run out of Eranga Madushanka, spinners Chanaka Devinda ( 8.2 -02- 20 – 02) & Thiwanka Kakulawela (04-01-17-03) were able to polish off the middle & the tail, as LOLC crashed to a paltry 75 runs in 17.2 overs just before the heavy down pour.
MCA appointed Match Referee, Basil Perera had no hesitation of naming, Thiwanka Kakulawela from Nawaloka Hospitals, as his Man of the Match.
The other 03 Special Awards, based on performances up to the Semi Finals were bagged by Asela Sampath from MAS Unichela/ Best Bowler (15 wickets for 190 runs); Thaveesha Abishek Kahaduwarachchi from Nawaloka Hospitals/ Best Batsman (05 innings & 376 runs, inclusive of 05 half centuries) & Thiwanka Kakulawela from Nawaloka Hospitals / Man of the Series ( 175 runs & 12 wickets).
