NCC over throw Marians

NCC put on an impressive all-round effort to comprehensively beat Chilaw Marians by six wickets in their Premier Limited Over cricket match played at SSC grounds yesterday.

This was their second consecutive win following their 84 run win against Bloomfield on Sunday.

After spinners Sohan Boralessa and Tharindu Kaushal set the tone for an easy chase as they combined to bowl out Chilaw Marians for 152 inside 45 overs, their batsmen put the finishing touches in style in 33 overs.

Batting first Chilaw Marians lost wickets at regular intervals but a fighting unbeaten 63 by Umesh Karunaratne helped them to reach a decent score.

It was brilliant effort by the middle order bat whose 82 ball innings included four boundaries and a six as he held his nerve to bat through the innings despite the threats from spin duo of Boralessa and Kaushal. The left arm spinner took three for 30 while Kaushal returned figures of 3 for 38.

Chasing a modest target, NCC got off to a flyer with in-form Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga putting on a valuable 61 for the first wicket in 12 overs before Tharanga departed for a well made 35. Dickwella who made a swashbuckling 133 in the first match was in fine touch again as he took the blowers to the sword while Dinesh Chandimal made 36. Chandimal also shared 54 runs for the third wicket with Angelo Perera who remained unbeaten on 40 off 40 balls with five boundaries and a six.
