Jaffna registered their first win of the National Super League 2023 as they defeated Kandy by 4 wickets today (11th February), at SSC Grounds, Colombo.

Team Kandy resumed their 2nd innings on day three at 172/6 with the overnight batter Ahan Wickramasinghe remaining unbeaten on 51 at the crease. They managed to add 50 more runs to the total for the remaining 4 wickets, being bowled out for 222.
Wickramasinghe was the top scorer for Kandy as he made 77 runs off 101 balls with 8 fours and a six, while the two left-arm spinners Shashika Dulshan and Navod Paranavithana starred with the ball for Jaffna, sharing 7 wickets between them.
Jaffna were set a target of 243 runs to win, which they chased down with 4 wickets in hand. The Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva was the standout performer with the bat for Jaffna as he made an unbeaten 82 runs, carrying his side over the line.

Colombo vs Galle
In the other encounter, Galle managed to go past Colombo’s first innings total as they put up a brilliant batting effort today at Hambantota.
After being 131/2 at stumps on day two, Galle posted 439 runs for 5 wickets at the close of play on day three, in reply to Colombo’s first innings total of 405.
Lakshan Edirisinghe and Angelo Mathews were brilliant with the bat for Galle, as both of them scored fighting centuries for their side. The pair associated in a massive 210-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.
The experienced campaigner Dinesh Chandimal and wicket-keeper batter Pathum Kumara also chipped in with valuable knocks of 63 & 71* respectively.
