National squash team leaves to South Korea

Eight national squash players will be leaving the island to represent Sri Lanka at the 19th Asian Senior Squash Team Championships which will be held in South Korea at the Cheongju International Squash Stadium in South Korea from 21st to 25th of March.

Two teams have been selected representing the men’s and women’s categories, each comprising of 4 players. Ravindu Laksiri will captain the men’s team while Mihiliya Methsarani the womens.

The Men’s team includes captain Ravindu Laksiri, Shamil Wakeel, Gihan Suwaris and Druvinka Perera and the Women’s will be represented by captain Mihiliya Methsarani, Fathoum Izzadeen, Kasuni Gunawardane and Zameera Deen.

Both teams will be head coached by Chaminda Thalagala who will be assisted by Team Manager , Wing Commander Eranda Geeganage with Lady Chaperon Sadamini Wickramasinghe. Sumithra Wanasinghe will be joining the joining the teams as a representative of the Ministry of Sports.

In the Men’s competitions, 16 countries will battle it out for the premiere title which includes countries like Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Japan, Pakistan, Malaysia and hosts South Korea.

In the Women’s competitions, 11 teams will take part in the tournament alongside Sri Lanka where top contenders Hong Kong, Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea have been pooled.
