St.Sylvester’s College, Kandy hosted St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya as the first completed under 19 division one school cricket match after a long pause owing to bad weather that interrupted the games held in Kandy.

The match was played at the Peradeniya University Grounds which ended up in the visitors, St. Peter’s College’s favour.

Petes won the toss and invited St.Sylvester’s College to bat first and accordingly they made 172 all out in 69.5 overs. Right-hander Manuja Perera top-scored for the hosts’ with 44 runs inclusive of two whopping sixes. Thenuka Liyanage scored 35 while three wickets each were shared between off-spinner Taneesha Weerakoon and right-arm seamer Manelkar De Silva.

In reply, Peterites went on to score 176 runs for the loss of 9 wickets after having an overnight score of 53 for 1 on the first day. Sri Lanka under 19 representative, Lakshina Rodrigo chipped in with a well-constructed 46 while Pabasara Perera and Manuja Perera bagged 3 wickets each.

Vesters’ second innings batting was a bit substandard compared to their first innings, as they lost 6 wickets for just 72 runs at stumps on day two. They were unable to build up a solid partnership as left-arm spinner Sadeesh Pathiranage and Randell Senevirathne ruined the Vesters’ batting lineup grabbing 3 wickets and 2 wickets respectively.

The game ended in Peterites’ favour taking them to a decisive 1st innings victory.
