Moragasmulla, Cooray SC, Eastern Youth, SLTB & Badovita recorded thumping wins in their pursuit to book a place in the quarter finals of the Premier League Division I Championship.

 

Group A

Cooray SC decimated the struggling Maligawatte Youth coached by Sri Lanka cap Fazul Rahuman 11-1 in their sixth and final match of the group and thus cementing their place in the quarter finals. Red Star who are yet to play their final two matches sits in second place of the table a point behind Cooray SC.

Badovita United put five past Colpetty United who are second from bottom. After closely fought opening few minutes, Badovita showed their class in winning the match 5-2.

Group B

Eastern Youth made it a three way battle for the two spots in the quarter final defeating Young Marians SC 4-0. This is Young Marians third defeat which leaves them mid table having played three matches extra.

Golden Star failed to extend their lead at the top of the table after a resilient Red Sun held them to a goalless draw. Red Sun put in a spirited performance to earn a point leaving them second from the bottom with two points.

Group C

SLTB had a good warm-up for their upcoming round of 32 match in the FA Cup when they defeated Super Beach SC 3-0. The win also secures them of a place in the quarter finals which would greatly boost their morale going into the FA Cup fixture.

Moragasmulla secured the final spot in the quarter final from group C, demolishing Dharga Town 8-0 at the newly built Moragasmulla Ground. Roshan Priyawansa scored a hat-trick while Priyankara and Manoj scored a brace each. Pubudu Sakulada opened the scoring in the 11th minute and Priyankara added the second six minutes later. Priyankara scored his second in the 24th minute and Roshan Priyawansa sandwiched a goal between manoj’s brace ending the first half 6-0. Priyawansa went on to complete his hat-trick scoring goals in the 66th and 85th minutes, the last of which was a wonderful curling effort to the far top corner.

Jet Liners SC climbed up the table with a 2-1 win over mid table Kandy York SC while Serendib SC narrowly defeated Old Mazenodians 1-0 leaving them in third place.

The top of the table clash between Thihariya Youth and Old Mazenodians ended in a goalless draw.
