Mixed emotions for Hameed Al Husseinie

Hameed Al Husseinie bounced back from a thrashing from Maris Stella College a week earlier, to win 2-1 against St.Joseph’s College in the Kotmale Chox U19 Schools Football Championship.

It was a crucial match for both the sides especially for Hameed Al Husseinie after the 5-1 thrashing by Maris Stella College. In that match Anjana Gunawardena, Dilip Peiris and Kasun Sandeepa scored one each while Captain Supun Lahiru scored two for the Negombo school.

In the match against St.Joseph’s College Hameed Al Huseeinie went into halftime with a goal advantage and in the final ten minutes both sides exchanged goals with a flurry of yellow cards given in that time.

SL Schools Football 1Mohamed Aman scored for Hameed Al Husseinie in the 29th minute while they also missed a few chances. St.Joseph’s also got free-kicks but were unable to find a goal in the first half.

It was a closely fought game in the second half as both sides were in search of goals. The match livened up in the final ten minutes with Mohamed Rishan doubling the lead for Hameed Al Husseinie in the 80th minute but Clevin Perera pulled a goal back four minutes later.

Mayuraka Perera and Esanda Dakshina got yellow cards for St.Joseph’s College and Madushan Nishanda received a straight red card in injury time for an elbow on a St.Joseph’s defender.
