The knock-outs will kick off this Sunday the 28th June at the Royal Complex, 4.30pm. Defending champions Isipathana College has one last chance to secure a trophy in 2015.
Sponsors Nestle Lanka and the SLSRFA together held a media conference yesterday at the CR&FC grounds. Speaking to the gathering Mr. Norman Kannangara Asst. Vice President, Nestle Lanka, stated that “the league has come to an end after some exciting games, knockouts will take place in the coming weekend and we believe there will be some great games ahead”. Mr. Kannangara further stated about the Milo – SLSRFA partnership for the last 23 long years which has continued to help school sportsmen around the island.
Mr. Ranjith Chandrasekera the president of SLSRFA thanked the sponsors for their services. He also mentioned that the finals will be played on Sunday the 12th of July and it will be telecasted on the national television.
The league came to a conclusion after Royal emerging undisputed champions beating Isipathana 21 – 08. Perhaps these two teams might compete in the finals yet again.
However, interestingly Science College will start the proceedings with St. Peters once again after thrashing them 34 – 03 in the final week of the league. On Monday Trinity will take on D.S. Senanayake at the Royal Complex. Meanwhile, Royal and Isipathana have won a bye and the winner of the Science v St. Peters will play Royal and the other winner will play Isipathana.
The semi-final will kick off on the 4th & 5th July and if Isipathana comes to the final against Royal, then there will be a possible neutral venue change is expected. SLSRFA will confirm the venue.
Moreover, St. Joseph, S. Thomas and Kingswood pulled out due to injuries and Plate winners Wesley and St. Anthony’s also will not participate as a result D.S. Senanayake got the available slot after finishing second in plate to take on Trinity.
